Welcome to the Triad! The Triad is made up of several large North Carolina cities – Greensboro, Winston Salem, and High Point and other beautiful communities, including Burlington, Thomasville, Lexington, Asheboro, and Kernersville. The Triad is home to more than 1.5 million people.
More than 20 institutions of higher education are located in the Triad. You can’t go wrong with choices such as Wake Forest, NC A&T, Elon, High Point, UNC-Greensboro, and NC School of the Arts.
The Triad’s traditional industries are textiles, tobacco, and furniture. Hanes Corporation and Reynolds American are based in Winston Salem. Do you need furniture for your home? Thomasville is known as “Chair City” and High Point is the “Furniture Capital of the World”? Come check it out!
The area has also encouraged technological growth with projects such Wake Forest Innovation Quarter and Gateway University Research Park. LabCorp is headquartered in Burlington and is one of the largest clinical labs in the world. Banking has made its mark in the Triad as well — it’s home to the corporate headquarters of BB&T.
The Triad serves area veterans at the brand new, state-of-the-art Kernersville Health Care Center. The center has primary care, behavioral health, and laboratory services. The facility is also fully handicapped accessible to ensure easy access for all.
The North Carolina Zoological Park is a must-see for any visitor or resident. Located near Asheboro, the zoo is on a 2,200-acre plot of land in the Uwharrie Mountains. The NC Zoo is the largest “natural habitat” zoo in the United States. The zoo earned this title because the animals live in enclosures that mimic their natural environment instead of cages made of steel and concrete.
You’ll find plenty of other things to explore in the Triad, too. Visit Old Salem Museums & Gardens, Mount Airy “Mayberry,” Yadkin Valley Wineries, and Hickory Hill Pottery. While you’re at it, stop in for a melt-in-your-mouth Krispy Kreme doughnut – the company was founded right here in the Triad!
